Farewell of the Ferryman: Charon's Decay live in Emden

Charon's Decay is a melodic death metal band from East Frisia in Northern Germany. The band was formed by Christian Ihnken (vocals), Malte Schepker (bass), and Stefan Koenen (guitar) after their friend and drummer, Markus "Farmi" Fährmann, passed away in March 2023. They decided to start a new band to honor Markus's legacy, naming it Charon's Decay, which reflects their intention to pay tribute to their late friend. Shortly after forming, they were joined by Helmo Schröder on guitar and Reke Buchenau on drums, completing the band's lineup. In August 2023, Charon's Decay went to Soundlodge Studio to record their first single, also called "Charon's Decay," which they released on YouTube on September 28, 2023.

Their music is heavily influenced by the death metal scene in Gothenburg and Stockholm, Sweden, but they add their unique twist by blending traditional and modern melodic death metal sounds. This creates a distinct and appealing sound for their music. Besides making music, Charon's Decay also sells merchandise and can be found on popular streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

I had the incredible opportunity to serve as the photographer at their first concert in Emden, titled "Farewell of the Ferryman." This experience was not only a privilege but also a significant milestone for me, marking my debut as an event photographer. Working with Charon's Decay at such a meaningful event has inspired me to pursue event photography further. I'm immensely grateful to the band for this chance, and I eagerly anticipate capturing more events in the future.
